BMW R-Series description

Offered for sale is this extremely early first year R80GS. The GS series of bikes has turned into the most important post-war model for BMW, and the first generation GS bikes are on fire with collectors. This is a first year example, and it is number 33 made. When you figure that about a dozen machines were held back by BMW for long term road tests loaners, press bikes and service school training, this is one of the very first machines available for retail sale. This bike is all matching numbers, and comes with a clear Virginia title in my name, ready to sign over to the new owner.

Other than the speedo which has been swapped out for a tach, the bike is in very original condition. The original Zeuna exhaust system is still in place, and even the header pipes - which are often beat up - are in near mint condition on this bike. It still has the original date-code-correct AKRONT 21" front rim. Also included are the tool roll and an original 1981 GS owners manual.  The bike is not currently running, but it kicks over just fine with the kick start pedal. As you can see from the photos, this machine was used and enjoyed the way it was meant to be - and now it deserves to be lovingly restored, and to take its place of honor in someone's collection. I've seen mint restored first year GS's sell up near the $20k mark, so here is your chance to get a very desirable machine, to restore it, and to still have lots of room left in your budget over what you might pay for another bike.

Please ask all questions before bidding, and have your finances lined up too. Payment in full must be received within 7 days of auction end, and the bike must be picked up/shipped within one month of auction end. I have some flexibility here, but if you need to store for more than one month, email me before you bid and let me know what you have in mind. The bike will not ship before the funds arrive, or in the case of personal checks, until the funds clear. Overseas sales are fine, but I cannot help with any shipping estimates.  PayPal payment accepted ONLY if sent via Friends & Family option, which has no fees on either end if coming from a bank account or PayPal balance. Good luck!

Looking for a CBR250R or K1600GTL Forum?

Thu, 07 Apr 2011

Every year in the motorcycling world there are a few new motorcycles that gather the collective interest of enthusiasts across the country. This year those two models included the new entry-level sportbike from Honda, the CBR250R, and the new luxo-touring bike from BMW, the K1600GT and K1600GTL. While enthusiasts are gearing up for delivery of their new bikes there is a place for them to enthusiastically discuss their new purchase, or perhaps, for those who have not yet purchased, a sounding board for their thoughts.
