BMW R-Series description

2002 R1150RT 48K miles

I bought this for my wife because I already have one like it for myself and it turns out that she wanted a R1150R instead. I have made it as service free and safe as possible due to the fact that my wife was riding it to and from work and on some long trips with me.

New parts or recent maintenance:
1. Odyssey Dry Battery
2. Speigler Brake Lines
3. Pearl Red Paint
4. Bill Meyer Saddle
5. New front tire
6. New Brake pads and rotors front and rear
7. All fluids changed in the last 1000 Miles.

In the effort of full disclosure here are the items I would fix or replace if I were keeping it:

1. Right Mirror broke from the painter dropping just the mirror (not the bike) still can use it.
2. Rear Tire has some dry spots on it and could use a new one but tread is very good. Can negotiate a new tire installed with the sale if the price is right.
3. One of the plastic gears in the speedo stopped working recently. The Odometer works fine so the mileage is correct.  I have a used speedo that works but the mileage would not be correct and that is why I have not installed it.  The good speedo will go with the bike.  I have had these bikes long enough I can tell the speed by the RPM so it have not bother me.

Fake motorcycle police. Why?

Tue, 17 Jan 2012

People who like to pretend they're police baffle me and annoy me in equal measure. I took this picture the other day at Cobham, about to join the A3 heading to Guildford. I guessed that the guy on the left had just bought his rather fetching BMW off the guy on the right.

NHTSA Proposes Minimum Sound Standards for Electric Vehicles

Tue, 08 Jan 2013

For years now, the motorcycle industry has had to design its motorcycles and their exhaust systems to stay below government-mandated sound levels, particularly with off-road motorcycles. The burgeoning electric vehicle industry may bring about the opposite now, with governments proposing minimum sound levels for the mostly silent-running electric cars and motorcycles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a which operates under the auspices of the U.S.

BMW GS Rider Rescues Cow Calf From Canal [Video]

Wed, 26 Oct 2011

As a motorcyclist I’ve made it my duty to stop and lend assistance any time I see a fellow rider that looks like they’re in need, a sort of paying it forward mentality for the many times I found myself in need of a hand. In most instances the rider stopped on the road’s edge had pulled to the side temporarily to resolve an innocuous issue, but occasionally a rider genuinely needed my help. In either case the riders were grateful that a fellow motorcyclist was checking up on them.
