Harley-Davidson Sportster description

i picked this beauty up from an estate sale with no paperwork and was mostly taken apart. you can tell that someone, at some point, had spent a lot of time and money on this. a friend of mine helped me "piece it together", we're not mechanics but mainly wanted to make sure everything was all there. the motor was all together, just not the intake, pushrods, clutch side cover, carburator, air cleaner (basically the bolt on stuff). it had a box of new gaskets and o rings and stuff, i didn't know where everything went so i'll leave that up to you:)

wiring seems to be complete (currently no battery), the motor turns over fine and from shining a flashlight down the spark plug holes, it look like the pistons are new (it's all shiny inside, well maybe not shiny, but not black..haha). the paint job looks great however, there are a few places (and i'm sure it's from being moved around in boxes, etc.) that have some pretty good scratches. i'm sure a paint/body guy could make this thing perfect for not much. brakes work great front and back. i didn't hook up the clutch or throttle cable, they are zip tied to the handlebars (laziness).

this really is a nice bike, i was going to have a mechanic go through it and put it together for me but honestly i'm not 100% into it, so i'm just going to let someone else do that. more than anything i'm 6'-2" and this bike is just too small for me.

i did the DMV work and currently have a non-op'd california clear title ready to go.

if there are any specific things you'd like pictures of let me know, i will answer any questions to the best of my knowledge. i've never heard this thing run, so i can't "guarantee" anything. but i have a feeling that for the right person it wouldn't take much.

shipping is out of san diego, ca...local pick up would be awesome, but i'll assist shipping company (to whatever YOU choose and set up) however i can

thanks for looking

Wed, 23 Jul 2014

“Built for Speed – Race Inspired Motorcycles and Art” is the title of Michael Lichter’s 14th annual “Motorcycles as Art” exhibition in Sturgis this August, which for the second year in a row, will be jointly curated by Michael and Paul d’Orleans of the Vintagent. ‘Built for Speed’ is sure to impress visitors with a beautiful and thought-provoking display of motorcycles and related art, the race-inspired theme making connections between motorcycle racing and custom bike designs inspired by racers. Each custom bike in ‘Built for Speed’ reflects a branch of racing; Speedway, Flat Track, Drag Racing, Board Track,  Grand Prix, Land Speed Record, and will be displayed beside the racing machines suggesting the origins of each style.
