Honda MR250 Elsinore description

This is a 1976 Honda Elsinore MR250 off-road motorcycle.  It has a 250cc, single cylinder, 2-stroke engine.   It does not have an oil injector, so 2-stroke oil must be pre-mixed 50:1 with gas.  It has drum brakes front and rear, headlight and brake light, and speedometer/odometer.  Kickstart only.  It does not have turn signals and is not street legal.  It does not have a VIN, so it does NOT have a title.  The bike will come with a Bill of Sale only.  (Note that eBay's software would not let me choose that it does not have a title!  As an off-road vehicle, it never had a title for street use.)

The bike runs well.  It (usually) starts 1st or 2nd kick with the choke on.  I say "usually" because the kickstarter needs to be repaired.  About half the time when you kick it, the kickstarter does not engage and turn the engine.  There are probably broken/missing teeth on the gear that engages with the kickstarter, because if you roll the bike forward in gear, the kickstarter will then engage.

It has a five speed transmission, and there is nothing wrong with the gears there.

It has full knobby tires front and rear.  The rear knobbies are about half worn down.  Front is good.

It doesn't have a spark arrestor on the muffler anymore.  The muffler and pipe are both in good condition, repainted by the previous owner.  The bike still has its original metal toolbox on the right rear side, and has its original shocks.

The tank was repainted by the previous owner.  The paint job is acceptable, though it bubbled up in two spots, if you look closely.  No dents in the tank, or anywhere else.  The inside of the tank is coated with some latex/rubbery sealant, I'm not sure exactly what product that is.

WHAT, you may well be asking, is a picture of an upturned helicopter doing on a website dedicated to motorcycles? Chopper fans amongst you may know this isn't any ordinary helicopter, it's an Agusta 109C; an 8-seat twin-turbine multi-million dollar aircraft capable of whisking its occupants across the sky at around 170mph. And my point is?

Wed, 27 Aug 2014

If you’re like us, you never get enough Isle of Man videos. While the men and machines that fly around the course are nothing short of mesmerizing, let’s take a moment and talk about a crucial aspect of any race: the tires. In this Honda-supplied video, Dunlop technicians, along with 21-time TT winner, John McGuiness, talk about the challenges the Isle throws at tires.

Ducati continues to develop its Desmosedici GP12 MotoGP race bike, setting modest goals while trying to establish a good setup. Already trailing the other factory teams in development time for its race prototypes, Ducati continued to try to find good base settings for the GP12. Valentino Rossi achieved the team’s goal of lapping under two minutes and two seconds with a time of 2:01.886 while completing 44 laps on the second day of testing at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit.
