Honda Nighthawk description

I've had this about 13 years, and it's gotten plenty of use, as the odometer will show.  A few years ago I bought a later Goldwing and a new V-Strom, so this hasn't been ridden much since, and I really need the garage space.  I'll try to be thorough and honest, so this might get a little verbose.

I don't think the bike looks quite as good in person as it does in the pictures, but I've kept it very clean cosmetically, and the flaws are very minor.  I've added the full-resolution versions of these photos to my Pbase page, so you can view them in detail.  Just go to Pbase and look for robertbarr.  It's the last gallery, on Page 3.

The bike starts immediately in all conditions, and runs well.  It's never needed much; I replaced the clutch friction plates about six years ago, and I reworked all the bar controls / switches, but otherwise, just routine maintenance.  The carbs have never been messed with; it still has the EPA-mandated plastic limiters on the mixture screws.  Typical fuel economy is 46.  The inside of the fuel tank looks like new.  Brakes function like new.  Shocks are a little soft.

Virtually everything works like it should, and the controls operate and feel almost like new. The hydraulic clutch got a brand new slave cylinder (tough to find!) and a rebuilt master cylinder, and feels like new.  Clutch operation is perfect.  The battery is a Yuasa, roughly six weeks old.

Tires:  Almost new.  Perhaps 500 miles on the front, less than that on the rear.  Previous tires were replaced due to their age.  Date codes indicate mid-2012 on the front and later 2013 on the rear, which is a Bridgestone Battlax.  These things handle SO much better with that tire than the original Dunlops.

WARTS:  There's a broken stud on #2 exhaust.  It's been that way for about 8 years, and it's never developed any exhaust leak -- even when decelerating by downshifting.  I imagine someday it'll start making noise, but it hasn't in about 12,000 miles now.

A few years ago, on a long Interstate ride on a really hot day, I stopped at a rest area & could hear some type of internal chain noise.  Possibly cam chain tensioner, which these are notorious for.  Got home & heard the same sound.  I've never heard it since, even after an hour-plus rides, so -- who knows.

The drain plug threads pulled out a few years ago.  I removed the pan and put in a helicoil; while it hasn't leaked, I distrust it enough that I now change the oil by removing the oil filter housing.

The bike is 31 years old, and has some signs of age & wear; the aluminum parts that were once clear-coated at the factory are now discoloring, there's a scrape on the case-saver, and a dimple on the left exhaust.  There's a small dent on the left side of the tank just above the letter 'H' that doesn't show up well.

I prepared a couple of videos of the bike. Not the greatest quality vids, but better than nothing.  Ebay won't allow me to include a link, so just go to Youtube and search for rbarr775.

Bike includes a factory service manual and its original owner's manual.  It has no tool kit.

CONDITIONS:  Bike is sold absolutely AS IS.  This will be an actual auction, meaning there will be no early sale.  High bid wins it, no matter what.  If you have fewer than 5 positive feedback, email me when you bid, or I will delete your bid.

WINNING BIDDER:  I want a nonrefundable deposit of $100 within 36 hours of auction's end, preferably Paypal.  Remainder is due in cash upon pickup.  I'll store the bike for up to ten days after end of auction.  Delivery / pickup is 100% the responsibility of the buyer; I absolutely will not ship.

LOCAL / NEARBY WINNER?  Since this bike is licensed and insured, I'd be willing to ride it to a destination within 40 miles of Joliet, IL at no charge, other than a ride back home.

QUESTIONS?  I'll try to answer any reasonable questions, but keep in mind that I work for a living...  I'm sure I've left out a few details.
