Husqvarna CR390 description

This really is a nice original Husky. So many vintage motocrossers have been beat to death and had most of their original parts replaced with aftermarket pieces but this bike was always adult owned, garaged, and still retains it's original parts, paint and tires(Trelleborgs). The only thing I am aware of that is not original is the handlebar grips.

My brother bought this bike about ten years ago from a friend. He passed away last year and I am selling it to help settle the estate. He rode it very seldom for the first three or four years and then parked it in the garage. It hasn't been started in six or seven years but it was running strong when he parked it. The motor kicks over freely and it has good compression. The carb slide is sticky and I am sure the carb needs to be cleaned/rebuilt. The only mechanical issue that I remember is that I believe the clutch would not fully disengage all the time. It may just be sticky from non -use. I don't remember all the details because it was my brothers bike and a long time ago but I am being as honest as I can. I know the motor itself was super strong.

Cosmetically the Husky is in amazingly good condition for an unrestored almost 30 year old motorcrosser. The biggest cosmetic flaws would be the original seat cover has splits (replacements are available) and there is a small soft crease on the right side of the tank(see picture). I talked to a dent removal person about it awhile back and he said that since it was  just below the filler neck it shouldn't be a problem taking it out if you desired. Also the brake lever ball is broken off so that should be replaced. Other than the above mentioned and misc scratches the bike is a nice bike.

Vintage motocrossers are becoming very collectible and increasingly hard to find in original unrestored condition. It wouldn't take a lot to dial this Husqvarna in and have a nice fun bike that is a good investment too.

The Husky is located in Payson, Arizona (zip 85541) which is about 75 miles northeast of metro Phoenix. I will help in any way I can with shipping. I will be gone for the holidays so if the bike sells it will need to be picked up before Christmas or towards the end of January when I return. This is an off road motorcycle so their is no title. I will provide a notorized bill of sale to the new owner. Finally, although I have done my best to accurately describe the Husqvarna, it is, of course, sold as is without any warranty.

Movie: The John Penton Story

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

John Penton was one of the most influential figures in the development of off-road motorcycle racing in America during the 1960s and ’70s. His life’s story is triumphant and tragic. When his attempts to convince Husqvarna to produce a smaller, lighter motorcycle fell on deaf ears, Penton created his own design and commissioned KTM, a small moped and bicycle maker in Austria, to build it. The motorcycle was an instant success in off-road competition and led KTM to expand its efforts in the motorcycle realm, initially in conjunction with Penton and ultimately on its own.
