KTM Other description

For auction is my 2001 KTM Duke II. It’s a LC4 640 cc thumper. If you are reading this listing you probably are familiar with these iconic machines. This has frankly been one of my most favorite bikes to just get out and ride. So light and flickable and just plain fun. It is essentially stock except that the exhaust have been professionally cored by a shop in Austria. It is louder than stock but not obnoxious or bothersome to the rider. It has new Michelin Pilot Power soft compound tires with about 100 miles of NC mountain road riding on them. The carburetor was rejetted to match the more free flowing exhaust. I’m a 52 year old physician who has ridden this bike essentially twice per year. I take it on a moto tote on the back of my SUV to our place in the Western North Carolina mountains. I have many many other bikes and many of which are acclaimed “sport bikes”. This is the only bike I take to the mountains…simply the most fun machine I’ve ever owned. I’m only selling due my desire to downsize and semi retire. The machine is in great shape and needs nothing. I’ll throw in a front “wave” brake rotor that I purchased and never installed for the winning buyer. Feel free to email with questions. Thanks for looking.

Photo: Brian J. Nelson Even though reigning AMA Pro Superbike champ Josh Herrin has left the series to try his hand in the Moto2 series, the Superbike field is still filled deep with talent heading into this weekend’s series opening round at Daytona. Here are just a few names to keep an eye on this weekend.

US Motorcycle Thefts Down 6% in 2011

Tue, 09 Oct 2012

Americans reported 46,667 motorcycle thefts in 2011, a 6% decrease from 49,791 stolen motorcycles in 2010, reports the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Despite the drop in reported thefts, the non-profit organization representing nearly 1100 property and casualty insurance companies says the theft rate still averages out to one motorcycle stolen every 11 minutes in the U.S. The numbers were published in the NICB’s 2011 ForeCAST Report which examined theft reports as well as recoveries.

Day 3 Dakar 2014: Barreda Maintains Overall Lead, Despres Catches Up

Tue, 07 Jan 2014

Joan Barreda won his second special stage this year and now boasts a lead of more than 13 minutes over Cyril Despres and Marc Coma, the two other beneficiaries of a particularly decisive stage. Today’s stage, part one of the first marathon stage with no team service, was characterized by the highest ever racing altitude in Dakar history. Facing the 22,841 foot summit of the Aconcagua, South Americas highest mountain, the motorcycle riders had to cross a pass over 14,107 feet in elevation in trial-like conditions.
