Norton Commando description
Bought used in 1974 and have owned it ever since. Bike is in great shape for its age. New paint, custom lettering about 5 years ago. New seat cover, exhaust pipes, narrow handlebars, Boyer ignition. Fairing came off a BMW R90S and is easily removed (no holes were drilled for the install). Bike has 14933 original miles on it, engine is all original with exception of Boyer ignition. Engine starts on first or second kick. Engine does leak a little oil (it is a Norton). Transmission works flawlessly, new clutch plates installed about 500 miles ago. All in all a great bike. The reason I am selling it is simply because it is a young man's bike.
8-30-2013 I've recently been informed that this bike may be a 750 and not an 850 as I originally described it. I'm not an expert on Nortons so I don't really know how to deal with the discrepancy. I would assume that they know what they are talking about, the bike was sold to me as an 850 and I never questioned it (the original paperwork and sidecover decals said 850). I will attempt to verify the engine size. In the meantime, I will continue to list the bike and remove the 850 engine size from the description. My apologies if I have identified it incorrectly.
8-30-2013 I checked a few websites and confirmed that the serial number of my bike corresponds to a 750 and not an 850 as I always thought. Therefore this bike will be sold as a 750. Any prospective buyer will have to ignore the 850 designation in the pictures, my apologies for the confusion. Still, even though I've been deluded for the past 39 years regarding the engine size, it has been a great bike.
