Other BROUGH SUPERIOR SS80 description

1936 Brough Superior SS80 with Watsonian sidecar

Motor # BS/X4 4397

Frame: 704

This motorcycle was uncovered inside a storage locker here in Texas, during the fall of 2009. It was in rough shape. The first photos below were right after rolling it outside for the first time. This Brough was buried in a hoard along with approximately 40 other motorcycles. Luckily the Brough had not been completely dismantled, and most of the parts were accounted for. This bike was then restored over a three year process. A copy of the factory build sheet was obtained. The build sheet stated that this motorcycle was fitted with a sidecar upon dispatch from the factory. There was not a sidecar in the storage unit. Brough Superiors could be optionally fitted at the factory with sidecars from various manufacturers. Below there is a scan from a Brochure detailing the optional sidecar. For this Brough, a 1930’s era Watsonian sidecar was located and also restored.

The motor and gearbox were completely rebuilt here at Big D Cycle. We took the motor all the way down to inspect, clean, and refurbish all the internal components. We had Webcam reproduce a copy of the camshaft. The cam originally inside the motor was too worn to be useable. All the fasteners were glass beaded and professionally cad plated. All the hardware that was missing or damaged was replaced from the large stockpile of period correct British hardware that was inside the storage locker. The steel rims were glass beaded and repaired. Then they were chromed and lastly they were hand painted. The hubs were re-laced to the original rims. Very few parts had to be sourced for this restoration. Most of what was missing was purchased from British Only Austria. The magdyno was also professionally rebuilt and restored. The fuel tank was repaired and refinished by Ross Thompson metal finishing. He does top notch metal work. All the chrome plating on this motorcycle was done by Brown’s Plating in Paducah, Kentucky. We have yet to see any chrome finer than theirs. Every aspect of this restoration was scrutinized and perfected.

This Brough has won several awards at prestigious events nationwide.

This motorcycle has been taken out and ridden around at events. As of today there are 51 miles on the odometer. It starts runs, rides, and stops like a 1936 British motorcycle. Everything on it works as well as it ever did when new, perhaps even better. The front and rear tires are new Avons. The front is a speedmaster, the rear is a safety mileage. The sidecar tire is an original Dunlop sidecar tire, which was difficult to obtain. The sidecar tire is in good enough shape to ride. In the trunk of the sidecar there are some neat accessories that make this restoration stand out. There is a Brough Superior tool kit (original tools, reproduction tool roll) and a Lucas lightbulb holder. There is a top for the sidecar. It easily snaps on and off. A genuine Brough sidestand will come with the bike. It has been restored and is ready to bolt on if you choose to remove the sidecar for solo riding. No shortcuts were taken, and no expenses spared on restoring this Brough Superior. A lot of time and hard work went into the motorcycle you see here.

We can help arrange shipping within the United States at the expense of the winning bidder. International shipping arrangements are the responsibility of the winning bidder. We cannot arrange the export of this motorcycle. We can have it packed, crated, and made ready to ship; but you will have to arrange and pay for international shipping.

Shipping this motorcycle outside the United States will be costly. With the sidecar attached, it is not a small package. The dimensions with the sidecar are 96’’ X 64’’ X 44’’. We do not have a scale to accurately weigh it, but I assume it has a total weight of at least 600lbs. The best course of action may be to remove the sidecar, and then crate the bike and side car separately. We are willing to work with your shipper to get the bike safely packed and delivered to you.

JUST A HEADS UP THIS VIDEO IS A TAD SHAKY AND THERE IS A LOT OF WIND NOISE. IT WAS MORE DIFFICULT THAN ANTICIPATED TO GET A GOOD CAMERA ANGLE FROM THE SIDECAR.
