MSF Begins Year-long Real World Motorcycle Safety Study

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has started what it calls the first-ever naturalistic study of motorcycling, with 100 motorcycles equipped with data logging equipment to record real-world riding situations over the course of a year. British Superbike racing team Crescent Suzuki announced it will enter the World Superbike Championship next year, but Suzuki racing fans are perhaps left with even more questions about the 2012 racing season. Crescent Suzuki will enter two riders on GSX-R1000 superbikes next season, but the team has not named its riders or described the level of support it will receive from Suzuki. This season, Crescent Suzuki fielded John Hopkins and Jon Kirkham with Hopkins falling short of winning the championship thanks to a photo finish on the season’s final race.

A little while ago, Honda revealed a 130mph tractor lawn mower with an engine from a Superhawk. Along a similar vein is the Isle of Man’s Garage Insanity with a mobility scooter equipped with a 600cc inline-four engine from a Suzuki Katana. According to Garage Insanity, the mobility scooter has a theoretical top speed of 140mph given enough running room, though in practice, it’s only been timed at 102.2 mph over a quarter-mile.
