Triumph Thunderbird description

Correct ground up restoration of a rare 650cc, pre-unit, matching numbers, 1955 Triumph 6T Thunderbird by Triumph expert and multiple concours winner Tom Ackroyd of Cape May, NJ. It was taken down to the frame, which was stripped and painted. The engine was rebuilt, the wiring replaced, new fasteners and fitted with new tires and rims. This bike had been in the hands of a collector for a number of years when I purchased it in 2014. $3500 was just spent at a marque specialist this past spring to get it ready for the road: new tires, tubes, primary case gasket, rear brakes, clutch hub and bearing, battery, fluids, adjustments and a tune-up. A halogen headlight, LED taillight, mirror and a Shorai lithium battery have also been fitted for safety and reliability. The bike has accumulated only 56 miles since restoration and it's a one kick starter, if the proper procedures are followed. Period correct fuel petcocks will be supplied but they weep with locally available (10% Ethanol) gas. The bike has a clear title and is currently registered in New York State. There is a small ding in the right muffler and paint chip on the upper right side of the tank (see photos).

A recent job change and move to a smaller house are forcing me to pare down my collection. The NADA price guide lists this bike at $17,405 but my reserve is much lower. The bike can be seen in person by appointment.  I will work with your carrier for pickup but will not pack/crate it. My phone number is 203 223-9207.

Please note that this vehicle is being advertised locally and I could end the auction early if reserve isn't met.

I purchased this bike from Northeast Sportscar and they still have dozens of photos of it on the web. Many are of a much better quality than mine!

Triumph Tiger Explorer and Trophy SE Recalled for Throttle Position Sensor Error

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Triumph is recalling a combined total of 2,800 units of the Tiger Explorer and Trophy SE due to a problem with the electronic control unit detecting the throttle position. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the ECU’s detection threshold is set too tightly and it lacked proper signal filtering, causing it to prematurely detecting a deviation in the throttle butterfly position. The ECU would then activate the ride-by-wire system’s safety shutdown, closing the throttle butterly valve and cutting the fuel and ignition.

Charge Up you iPhone While You Ride

Fri, 12 Feb 2010

Motorcyclists can now enjoy total freedom on the open road confident in the knowledge that their cell phones, GPS, MP3 players and latest generation of iPhone/iTouch devices will remain fully-charged and in-service for the duration of the ride thanks to Powerlet’s plug and play systems. “Our product line was inspired by personal experience and the realization that there were no worthwhile options for clean, reliable on-board power for cell phones, stereos and GPS devices,” says Powerlet Products founder Adam Bonislawaski. “Before we came on to the scene, riders would bust out the black tape and wire strippers and cut into their bike’s fragile wiring to tie-in a cheap cigar lighter to power their devices.
