BMW Announces 2014 Model Updates and New K1600GT Sport

Thu, 11 Jul 2013

BMW announced a new variant to its six-cylinder K-series and other small updates to returning 2014 models. The 2014 models were first revealed last weekend’s BMW Motorrad Days celebration but we now have full details on the updates.

The new 2014 BMW K1600GT Sport is based on the existing K1600GT but adds a special Sakhir Orange/Black Storm Metallic paint job, black gloss-coated wheels, a shorter windscreen and a sportier seat design. U.S. pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but in Germany, the Sport model is priced at €20,920 (US$27,280), compared to the  €20,500 price tag for the K1600GT.

Though it was only introduced last year, the new BMW R1200GS gets a minor update. For 2014, the base model will now come standard with traction control and the ability to select between Rain and Road ride modes (both were previously offered in optional packages). A steering damper has also been added to the standard model. A separate Pro package adds three ride modes, Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro; each of these modes works in co-ordination with traction control and ABS settings.

All options except for the “Pro” on-board computer can now be ordered separately instead of through packages with other add-ons. This includes the Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment system which will now come with white-coated coil springs. The base price in Germany has also increased by €300 to €14,400 (US$18,765.65).

Like its larger liquid-cooled sibling, the 2014 F800GS also gets revised options, with the previous Safety Package replaced by a new Dynamic Performance Package comprising of ESA, traction control, off-road ABS and traction control modes. The Dynamic Performance Package cannot be equipped with the lowered suspension option.

BMW’s C600 Sport and C650 GT maxi-scooters also receive minor changes. Both models get a new black gloss instrument panel, silver-painted swingarm covers and new filler cap opening mechanisms.

All of these models receive new color options, as do the S1000RR sportbike, K1600GT and K1600GTL tourers, R1200R and F800R roadsters and the G650GS.
