James Stewart Extends Contract with Yoshimura Suzuki

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

Just days after celebrating his first win of the 2014 season, James Stewart has another reason to celebrate, signing a contract extension with Yoshimura Suzuki to race in AMA Supercross and Motocross through 2015.

“Working with James has been a tremendously gratifying experience,” says Mike Webb, Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing team manager. “We’ve really begun gelling as a team and I feel like we’re just now approaching our true potential. Everyone at Yoshimura Suzuki is looking forward to working with James through the 2014 and 2015 racing seasons; and possibly beyond.”

Stewart signed with Yoshimura Suzuki before the end of the 2012 AMA Supercross season, after a difficult tenure with the Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha team. Stewart was injured early in the 2012 AMA Motocross championship, cutting short his outdoor racing season. Stewart returned to race in the 2013 AMA Supercross championship, winning in Atlanta before re-injuring himself in the Minneapolis round. Stewart returned for the 2013 Motocross season, claiming the overall victory at Spring Creek.

After crashing at the season opener in Anaheim, Stewart has been having a solid 2014 Supercross season. His win in San Diego (46th of his Supercross career) gave Stewart three podiums in the last four rounds, helping him sit fourth overall after six rounds and within reach of Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto for the championship lead.

“I’m really happy to keep racing with Yoshimura Suzuki,” says Stewart. “It was great to get that first win at San Diego last weekend. I feel more-comfortable than ever with the team and we’ve gotten the set-up on the Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 dialed-in to where I feel really good on the bike. This year, we’ve made a lot of progress as a team and I’m looking forward to keeping that momentum going through the rest of the year and next season.”
