Motorcyclist Nabbed For Going 166 MPH on NY Thruway

Fri, 04 May 2012

McCarthy’s wit isn’t as quick as his motorcycle.

“A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.” (Proverbs 12:23 KJV)

According to reports, New York State Police arrested Nikkolaus McCarthy, 25, of Charlton, N.Y., this past Wednesday afternoon after he was “clocked” riding his motorcycle at 166 mph on the New York State Thruway in Ravena, N.Y.

But it seems McCarthy needs to learn the simple concept of avoiding self-incrimination.

Sealing his fate, McCarthy, an apparent dullard, then bragged to police that his bike could reach speeds in excess of 190 mph. Icing his criminal speeding antics is McCarthy’s lack of license endorsement to operate a motorcycle.

The trooper pursuing McCarthy was able to discern the speeder’s license plate and that the make of his motorcycle was a Suzuki, but only when McCarthy slowed, somewhat, for  traffic. According to TimesUnion.com, it was at that point that the trooper abandoned the pursuit because of McCarthy’s speed, but a description of the bike was broadcast over police scanners. The exact year and model of the Suzuki hasn’t been reported.

Troopers along the Thruway clocked him at 150 and 170 mph as maintenance workers provided updates on his location, police said.

It wasn’t until McCarthy stopped for gas 50 miles and 20 minutes later (yes, 50 miles in 20 minutes) in New Paltz, N.Y., that he was arrested and charged with fleeing police, reckless driving, speeding and operating out of class (no motorcycle endorsement).

This incident is similar to a recent high-speed run by a motorcyclist in Canada.

As we posted on April 20, Canadian authorities impounded a 2006 Yamaha R1 believed to have starred in a YouTube video reaching speeds of 299 kph (185 mph) on a British Columbia freeway.
